I started off training my dogs to use the pee pee pads as well, but I got tired of cleaning up the pads so I trained them to go outside. While I wasn't at home they are in crates, so that if they have a accident they have to lay in it...and they HATE it! So while I was home I still had a pee pee pad down at first, but then every hour or two I would take them outside and told them to go potty. It took about a month for them to learn to go outside. So now I don't use a pee pee pad at all and there are no more surprises on my carpet. You just have to make sure that you keep taking them outside so they know thats were they need to go.
