I have 3 cotton coat and 3 silky, The cotton is so much harder to take care of, I keep them short to avoid the matts, i find that clothes really add to the problem to, But its so cold here now that im always afraid they are cold, I dont use sweaters unless they are outside, I let them wear tanks in the house,
combing them every day also helps
