Dogs can do okay on a meat-free diet (evidence is liver compromised dogs on vegetarian food) but the only way I"d consider feeding a dog all vegetarian is if they had a health problem. There is no reason to do it otherwise and I haven't seen much research on whether it is healthy or not.

Even dogs with allergies can eat exotic meat.
If there was no way I could feed animal products, Ellie's diet would be packed with protein-rich beans, soy and cottage cheese. This just doesn't seem like the best way to go though.
