The true silk coat will be cold to the touch as an adult. And of course, very silky in texture. As a newborn, you cant tell much. You can do an educated guess by the parents and their bloodlines. As the pups get older, I have noticed that if they "break" color on the head and it is a platinum color, the coat will be silky. If the pup head "break" to a dark gold first, they will usually be a soft coat and black and tan as an adult. These are generalities and not set in stone. Your best bet is looking at the parents and the blooklines behind them.
