Hello!

How often do you take your puppy to "go potty" (whether it's to take them outside or on their pee-pads)?

We have been pee-pad training Mariah who will be 15 wks in 2 days. She is in an x-pen while we are at school/work during the day and anytime we can't closely supervise her. She does excellent in her pen and is consistently using her pee-pads with no "accidents" in her pen.

When get home we let her out of her pen and supervise her. W have been taking her back to her pen & pee-pads every 30-45 min to "go potty". We actually set a timer so that we don't forget. Very quickly she learned to go during these times (although she has never pooped she has not had any poop accidents either - she seems to go during the day or night while she is contained in her x-pen). We we were so proud! It has gotten to the point where we coax her to go into her pen by herself and with the door open she stays in there and "goes potty"! Until last night, every single time we've taken her she has gone potty.

This has been working well with very, very few accidents (although unfortunately one accident was on my daughter's bed?!?) and the accidents have usually happened when we've gotten distracted and didn't take her potty when the timer goes off.

Last night for the first time something NEW happened! I went to the area near her pen and she followed me there. It wasn't "time" so I didn tell her to go in her pen and go potty. She went into the pen completely on her own and drank a little bit and then I left the room. She didn't immediately follow me out so I went back to her pen and she had gone "potty" on her pee-pad, all on her own! YEAH! We were sooo EXCITED!

Afterwards we set the timer for 45 min and tried to take her potty again but she just didn't go. We let her leave the pen and tried again 15 min later and...nothing. She hadn't been drinking any water, etc and she is getting older so I thought maybe she just didn't have to go yet...but a few minutes later she peed on the carpet. Of course I told her no, took her to her pen, etc, etc. SIGH!

Two giant steps forward and one step back....LOL!

So my question is at 15 wks old how often do you think we should be taking her potty? If I had realized she had to go I would have just made her stay in her pen till she went!

I'd appreciate any advice!
