I have a cotton coated yorkie and his hair is very thick and mats when he just walks around, I also have a wooly coated girl, her hair is thinner than the cotton coat, but not as thin as a true silk coat. The cotton and wooly seem to be warm to the touch, while silk coats are cool to the touch and do not mat as easy. When you lift up a true silk coat and drape it over the back of your hand and run it across the hand it is cool to the touch, almost like silk fabric moving across your hand.
