Hello! and Welcome! What I do is comb the hair around the mouth to get the big chunks out ( this means having to let the area dry first) Then I wipe it down with a baby wipe or ( preferably) a doggy wipe. Sometimes if it is too bad I just rinse his beard off or bathe him all together.
I too am in the process of letting Louis' hair grow out in a not so traditional way, meaning I have been grooming him myself with a modified westie cut ( Westland Highlander- breed) I have many books on grooming and know for a fact that it is correct to trim the sanitary areas, the paw pads ( hair around and inside his actual paw pads- this is for sanitary purposes and would aid in creating traction for less slipping), and ears, tail is optional, but yes- traditionally you would let the tail grow long as well.
You can google "show yorkie" or just "yorkshire terrier" to see pictures of many different grooming jobs.
Hope this helped, Best of luck! |
