We have been docking our puppies tails for 8 years and have never had one get infected. We use surgical scissors to cut the tails and I use cuticle scissors to remove the dewclaws. To stop the bleeding I apply a product call Clotisol that I get from Revival Animal Health Products. The Clotisol stops the bleeding immediately and at the most the pups might loose 1 or 2 drops of blood and thats it.
