Yes, it is safe to bile acid test a 13 week old pup. 16 weeks is preferred, but 13 weeks is fine. In case your vet is not up to date on bile acid testing, it is no longer necessary to do a 12 hour fast as recommended previously. They just need to take paired samples. One before the meal and one two hours after the meal. This is recommended by Dr. Center from Cornell who is one of the leading experts in liver shunt and actually invented the bile acid test. |
Just curious when this info came out....when Diggy was bile acid tested they did not make him fast for 12 hours...they said it wasnt necessary. His test was first thing in the morning so he didnt eat all night so he really kinda fasted anyway but not 12 hours more like 7. He was tested May 2007. Curious if this is something new or did my vet already know about the Cornell study.
