When my daughter was expecting, I didn't want to be in the delivery room. I can't tell you why, I just didn't. My husband (her step father) on the other hand, asked her right away if he could be there. He said he was not allowed to be in the delivery room when his own (now grown) children were born, and he really wanted to witness a birth. He told my daughter that it was OK if she didn't want him there, but she said it was fine with her.
We were all there when she was in labor. I was in and out of the room and when it got close to time for the baby to come, I said I would go home and get my mom so she could be here to see the baby after it was born.
Well, when my mom and I got back to the hospital, the baby still hadn't been born and my daughter sent my husband to get me and my mom from the waiting room. She said she wanted us all in there. It turned out to be so special. There was baby, mom, grandmother, and great grandmother, all together. Afterwards I was really glad to be there.
My husband was so cute - he helped my daughter so much, he wanted to be involved and she was grateful for his help. About 30 minutes after baby Abigail was born, my husband was holding her and talking to her. One of the first things he said was, "I'm going to take you fishing and hunting and do anything that you want" You know what, Abigail is now 11 and she LOVES to go hunting and fishing with her dad and papa. Must have been that talk at birth that sealed the deal
