You should search for breeding laws to do with selling dogs in California. Here in FL we have something called the Puppy lemon Law....a breeder can not sell a sick dog without first notifying you of the dogs condition. I'm going thru something similar w/ my breeder....we took our new puppy to the vet and found out he has a Heart Murmur, which is a congenital defect, which means he was born with it. We are going to the vet today to see if it's still there or if we are lucky enough that it closed. We are trying to negotiate getting some money back....it's a very long and agonizing battle. It's basically he said she said.

I wish you friend the best of luck! I hope their puppy is alright. If it turns out that anything is wrong with him, have them contact the better business bureau (sp?) or look into taking them to small claims court.
