I do not know if animal control would help you to see if it had any thing that would be harmful!
I'd be like you- OMG!
The dogs could of killed it, they are "ratters" But I think you would of heard a a lot of noise in your backyard if they killed it!
I'd do a flea treatment- those things can have fleas bad. but it is winter!
