We keep Sailor and Frankie in their crates during the day...they both prefer being in their crates rather than in XPens while we are gone. They just sleep all day long and are able to hold it until I get home. Magic is left in the living room by herself as she has never taken to being put up in any way, but she is 3 years old and is great able leaving things alone and just curling up all day long. Captain is stays in an XPen during the day with his bed and some water, as he is just younger and likes to be able to walk around a little but is not able to have full freedom due to marking issues.
We have all of ours put up in a way that makes them for comfortable for them during the day...each dog prefers something a little different and we have tried to make each happy. I work 8hrs a day, which can seem long, but they have done this all their lives and don't seem to mind it. This setup allows all the dogs to be safe while I am gone!!
