My two boys are in belly bands all day. I use the Poise pads they are super absorbent (in the Wal-Mart incontinence section). I have never had any problems with infection or irritation. They do lick when I take them off at night, but I figure they are just cleaning it, which is a good thing.
With one boy it wasn't bad, but when we added the second boy the marking went up (I think they have to trump the others markings) and now that we have girls and have been breeding it is nonstop, hence the belly bands for the boys.
