I wouldn't give him free roam until you are 100% sure he is trained. 5 months is still really really young, please be patient and know this can take quite a while for some. Are you taking him to the pad, or just letting him go to the pad on his own> I would take him to the pad every xhours (you probably know his potty time pattern by now) and put him on it and say a key word, I use the word potty, and still re-inforce it every day by praising them when they use the potty box. My two are outdoor trained now too, so they use both methods, but it did NOT happen over night. Patience and praise and reward. Let him know you are happy when he does it right.
