During my 10 plus years of breeding Yorkies I have not had a problem with underdeveloped puppies being born. Not to say that it can't happen.
According to Dr. Dan Rice in the Complete Book of Dog Breeding "ovulation is spontaneous in the bitch: all mature ovarian follicles rupture at the same time, releasing their ova into the fallopian tubes that lead from the ovaries to the uterus." It's my understanding that they do drop at once but once mature can be fertilized over a period of 2 - 3 days. Any one else have any findings on this?
