In response to your original question: I know that when breeders are looking for a stud they should be looking for a 100% healthy, excellent example of the breed. They are also looking for a dog that will compliment their female...one that matches up well with their female. You have to look at the strong points and faults of both dogs and try to determine what type of puppies they will produce. You can't just put any male with your female...you've got to find the right match to try and get the best puppies possible. You should also research pedigrees...you want to learn what is behind the male and female. So far as other arrangements..fee, etc..I think that varies a lot.
