The one thing I have not seen mentioned that is a concern with using a Dremel or any other rotary tool is trying to remove too much nail to fast.

By going too fast, the rotary drum creates friction and that in turn generates a lot of heat and the dogs feel the heat sensation in the nail and will always freak them out.

Go slow when using the tool to keep heat from building up! Do not hold the sanding drum against the nail until you reach the spot you want. Use a Touch and Remove, Touch and Remove technique. The drum will stay cool and so will the nail.

BTW, I like the panty hose over the nail idea to keep hair out of the way. That is ingenious.
