I just had Maggy May to the vet because of some other issues she was having but she had a spot on her head that looked like the fur just wasn't there as much as it should be. I kept an eye on it and it seemed to have gotten a bit worse so while at the vet the other day, they did a skin scraping and found she had some demodex mites on her! She's on meds for it (it's an ointment) and she has to be on it for a month. I'd research it on the Internet and then perhaps talk with your vet about it. From what my vet told me and from what I've research on it, it's passed from the Mom to the pups right after they are born. Pups with a low immune system are not able to fight these off and keep them in check, but healthy pups can. Good luck to the both of you, I hope your furbabies don't have these.

With thinning on the head and legs, I would definately get your pup checked for mites.
