AKC dogs are divided into 7 groups - Toys, Terriers, Sporting, Hound, Herding, Working and Non Sporting. At a show, dogs compete against their own breed. The Best of Breed winners then go on to compete against other Best of Breed winners in their Group. The judge picks a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th place. The numbers behind the name shows how many times a dog has been picked for those placements.
