I just adopted a yorkie (Turtle) two weeks ago. I noticed that his breath smells REALLY bad. He does NOT like having his teeth brushed or messed with. I miraculously got to take a good look at his teeth the other day and there is this yellow, hard bony like layer over the top half of his teeth. I think it is mostly on the top, but it's kind of hard to tell because he will not let you look at them. His teeth appear to be in pretty bad shape. From what I have read this sounds like tartar build up and it sounds like he will probably have to be put under anesthesia to have it cleaned off. Have any of you had this problem with your yorkie? Is it an expensive procedure and is it safe for the dog? He only weighs 4 pounds and it scares me to think he might have to be put under.
