The high pitched "aaaawwww" is what gets my 1 yr. old, Chipper. When someone comes in I always ask them to please refrain from talking to Chipper or touching him. Even after awhile, I still ask the visitor to squat down to speak to Chipper. Sitting is even better. Been working so far.
