Depends on your upload speed too. Usually your download speed is much much faster than your upload speed.
My download speed will max at about 1200kb/s where my upload may hit only 100kb/s. For videos thats very slow.
As long as the light on your little modem is flashing like crazy its still doing something. But I don't like how youtube doesn't have a status bar.
