But there is only ONE standard. Yes, I guess anyone can create their own standard for the yorkie, but then they aren't truly breeding for the Yorkshire Terrier. The set standard for the breed defines important breed characteristics...these make a yorkie the breed that it is. If you ignore parts of this and breed what you want, your dogs don't exhibit what makes a yorkie a yorkie. People breed off standard dogs all the time which is why most yorkies don't look anything like a standard yorkie anymore. It's sad...yorkies are #2 dog in the nation and most people don't have a clue what a well-bred yorkie looks like. Way too many poor examples of the breed

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
