OK! Here it is. This is long. I feel so bad. This happened all because of my ignorance. I wish I was wrong, but I don't think I am. The only excuse I have (and it probably isn't a good one), is that I'm not at all familiar with dogs in heat as I have never bred before. Cookie had been bred 2 weeks before I got her.
OK! I got Ciara in October, I thought she was just going out of her first heat, so I didn't expect her to be in heat again before April. Cookie was due to go into heat in February, so when I first saw blood on the potty pad in January, I was suprised, but I thought that Cookie was going into heat a month early. I kept checking under her, but other than blood, I didn't know what I was looking for and never saw anything. Not even blood. I was beginning to think somebody had a UTI or something. Then I noticed blood on my pillow where Ciara had been sleeping. I checked under her and she was the one that was in heat. I don't know how long she had been in heat, I remember that the first day I saw blood was January 9th.
As soon as I realized she was in heat, I was very vigilant. I started putting diapers and onesies on her and keeping her confined when I went anywhere or taking Caesar with me so he wouldn't be there to bother her.
It must have already been to late, because her belly's getting big. I think she's at least 4 or 5 weeks pregnant. The vet said I could take her in for a blood test and advised that I have her xrayed in another week or two to make sure the puppies aren't going to be to big. |
