I agree with them protecting the island and the people that chose to stay there.
The scene w/ sayid and ben was a clip from the "future"....Sayid is the type of guy that doesn't let people tell him what to do. I don't think he is being blackmailed by Ben. I think he is working with Ben, because he wants those people on the list dead as well.
