You only have to get the vet to do it if there is a problem. Usually people say they can smell it (not very nice smell). I don't think you need to do it just for the sake of doing it if there is no problem to begin with because it may actually create a problem. I usually ask my groomer to skip that if I bring him to groom (once a year maybe) because mine is okay. If anything, I'd trust my vet with it unless the groomer has lots of experience.
