I'm not sure! I just stumbled on that with this post. Normally, I size my pictures at 400 x 600 pixels, and that works fine. But they appear smaller.
I'm on a mac, and this time, I exported the photos from iPhoto and when it asked for a size I selected JPEG quality: Medium. Size: Large. And voila. Big pictures. When I open them up in photoshop, it says they are 11x17 at 72 pixels per inch. I don't get it.
There's also a setting for jpeg quality small that I've used before with similar results. I'm not sure why it worked on medium this time.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. It's a mystery!
