Default Seriously, Do Any Of You...

Ok, I have an off the wall question. My daughter, my husband and I went half and half and bought my sister a yorkie pup about a month ago now, she took him to the vet and the vet puled the fur out of his ears. The vet told her that this breed is notorious for ear infections and the hair in their ears can keep the envirement moist and they need to pull any hair (fur) out of Coco's ears they find on the inside. Has anyone here ever heard of this or done it? She said when the vet showed them, he grabbed the fur and just pulled it right out and Coco didn't whine or anything, but then the vet had my sisters husband to do the other one and when he did it, Coco let out a yelp. I've never ever heard of anything like this before with any breed. Should this really be done?
