25% of the dogs turned into shelters are purebreds. Eleven years ago the AKC estimated that 70% of all purebred dogs are produced by backyard breeders,
not puppy mills. Can you imagine what that figure is today with all the new "alternative" registries that cater to backyard breeders?
Do the math. Where do you think the majority of purebred dogs who end up in shelters are coming from?
