The greatest gift a person can give another is sacrifice of self, whether they are worthy of it or not is beside the point. What you did was indeed a great sacrifice for others at a great cost to yourself. You will be paid back ten fold and one day those you sacrificed for will come to understand. People get so wrapped up in themselves and their problems, it is so rare to run across those who are able to put themselves aside for the benefit of another.
