From everything I've ever learned and been told, it is easier on the dogs to have s/n surgery earlier than later. So if this is something you are going to do regardless, I don't see any reason to wait for that reason.

In regards to if the other 'little buddy' will drop in. It's still possible. One of our males didn't drop his first until he was 13 months old and the other didn't drop in until he was around 16 months old. (And even to this day, I swear one goes into hiding from time to time.) From what I understand, genetics aside, this is more common in the smaller males...
