Here's one tip I've recently figured out
If you use washable pee pads, use a DIFFERENT detergent than you use on everything else. (I use the "free and clear" type, along with bleach and a vinegar rinse). This will cut down on them having accidents on bedding and throw rugs, as they will start to associate a certain smell with the pads and will only go there.
