The same situation could just as easily have happened w/ AKC or another registry. I am curious though as to what kind of "bacground checks on everything" you are referring to that AKC alone offers?
Aside from that, I can completely understand where you are coming from. If I'd had a bad experience w/ a registry, I would be iffy about using them again too. I've dealt and been witness to some shady AKC business in the past so I guess I'm just aware that they have their flaws too. Although, sounds like what you actually had a bad experience with was not a registry, but a bad breeder who wasn't honest about what the dog you were getting. Did you report it to CKC? What action did they take?
