I would personally would not purchase a puppy from a breeder who got defensive about having their pups registered. it makes me believe they have something to hide. if they were charging not alot of money for the dog, then why would they care if it was registered or not? i also, personally, would not buy a puppy that was not registered. breeders sell their pups under either full or limited registration. limited registration means that the pup can be registered with the AKC, however, if it had puppies, the puppies could not. Full registration is if u breed your pup, their pups can be registered. A good breeder will have its pups and dogs registered to show and/ or breed their dogs. When a dog becomes ill, such as liver shunt, they will usually not show and breed the dog anymore. If the breeder shows and breeds and registers the dog, i would feel more at ease that the pup i bought (for a pet) would not have liver shunt or any other disease.
