That's such a hard decision. Reggie, our Shih Tzu was an only furbaby for about 9 years, when we added Roxie. Reggie had a horrible time with Roxie, but turned out she was a puppy mill puppy with severe psychological and genetic issues that we were unable to care for properly (she is now in her final-forever home with a vet and his wife). We were so afraid to add another dog after the guilt from that experience. But we waited and waited and then got Coby.
Our groomer (who studies to be a holistic caregiver - not sure of the official title) just CANNOT believe the difference in Reggie since Coby became his brother. Coby has made Reggie into a much more balanced and healthy dog.
I don't know if it's just difference in personalities, or genders, or if dogs can just sense another unbalanced dog versus a balanced one.
Guess I don't have good advice - just my story. Best of luck to you!!!
