Thank you all for your comments on Maddie! She is a real sweetheart. I have noticed that she is getting more used to it around here and feeling more at home. I was here with her 24/7 for the whole first two weeks. When I did finally leave for a couple hours, I busted out laughin' when I came home. She ran to the door and barked til I opened it, then she took off and ran around the coffee table twice, back over to me to do a happy dance, then another circle around the coffee table, then back over to dance for me, around the coffee table, up on the couch, roll around a bit, etc... I was laughing so hard at her! She was just so excited and happy to see me! It's little things like that that give me hope that she might get more playful.
Our other dog did... he's a shepherd/chow mix who was badly abused to the point that his personality was almost gone, he wouln't bark, he would basically just hide under the furniture. Now he barks (actually, most of the time it sounds like he's crowing like a rooster LOL) when we or my parents pull into the driveway, he runs to us for lovin's, he plays tag outside with the kids... he's just a totally different dog than when we got him! But it took at least a year to see the changes start to happen. I'm hoping that Maddie will change too... she don't have as far to go! LOL
