Then when you master the stay command...teach them to "leave it". If Winston gets into something that I don't want him to have I tell him to stay...he lays down...then I tell him to leave it...and whatever he has in his mouth he puts down. What a good boy I have...I am so proud of him.
This is a great suggestion!

Also do not play into his chase game. When you tell him to come and he runs in the opposite direction you should just turn around and walk away. the game is no fun for him if you ignore him and do not make a motion to follow. Then when he finally comes to you, give him a treat. Also when your not doing a training session and he just happens to walk up to you, on his way over say the word come and when he gets to you give him a treat. So by his coming over to you on his own he'll hear the word come.
