First of all, my condolences for your loss of Tara. It is hard on everyone to lose a beloved friend of 8 years.
As far as getting another...being right for Penny? The age factor isn't a problem I wouldn't think and given time and patience I would suppose she would be accepting of a new friend. I presently have 3 yorkies. Before I got my first one, we had a older cocker spaniel mix breed (probably 10-11 when I brought the first yorkie home). Alphie (the older dog) sniffed a little at the new guy, grumbled at him some, and maybe shunned the little guy for awhile but before long they were good friends and played together alot. I believe having the youngster around helped Alphie to act/feel younger again and helped keep him around for the next 4 years. We lost Alphie this last November at 14 years of age. He was here and accepting of my first yorkie and my second...I believe having them here for companionship was truely good for him. Good luck in your decision.
BTW....Welcome to Yorkie Talk - hope you stick around. This website is a great place to learn, meet friends from all over, and hey, maybe you can even teach us a thing or two!
