I do that as well, only picking up the poop and throwing it away. I only change the pad once a day or so, and when I do change it I rub the new one on one of the spots where he peed before so the scent is on the new one as well. If his scent is there he will keep going back to the same spot.
I might get some of that spray as well and try it....
