Is there a reason you have to stay in Times Sq...I mean, it's pretty touristy/garish. If you must, I'd recommend the W on Times Sq (I think it's the one w/ the water over the entrance). Otherwise, there are so many more charming places to stay.
I stayed a bit more upper east - and absolutely loved it. Wasn't too far - but far enough from the touristy bleh to be charming NY-ish - close to Central Park, museums, cab access, everything. I adore SoHo - that's really fun too.
