The sweetyblue videos are wonderful. The two videos on grooming will be very helpful the one on handling will not teach you to show a dog. It is more "tweaking" the performance of a more experenced handler. You will need more basic infomation on handling in the beginning. A great beginners book on handling is a book called Show Me. There is a Yahoo group started by the author of this book that discusses what is taught in the book. The group welcomes novice exhibitors and is very willing to help.
You can not decide it is time to buy a show prospect and find someone to sell you a quality dog the next day, the next week or even the next month.
You have to build a relationship with a reputable breeder before they will trust you with one of their puppies.
This is important - there are people in the world that will sell you a pet quality dog as a show prospect. Calling it a show dog doesn't make it a show dog. Do your homework. Buy from someone has breed and finished their dogs and have sold dogs to others that have finished. The YTCA breeders list is a good place to start.
Good luck to you! |
