We got them after the vet told us that Max will have trouble climbing, right after we got our first little girl and before we had our last girl. I am not sure that I would trust them holding 70 lbs either after all they are designed for small animals.
It is great that you have a cat that is 17 we have one who is 20. He likes the steps also, he has trouble getting up and down now.
