I agree that he might need a check up. I'm assuming that your concern stems from it being a fairly sudden change. If it were a gradual change, I'm betting you wouldn't have scoffed at the vet's remark.
Coby is a year old, and if I find him actually sleeping in his kennel without being sent there, I always worry that he's sick. I just know that's not his normal behavior.
