I don't think you have to. Freezing kills most of the bacteria so if that's something you're concerned about then its best to freeze. However, most healthy dogs do not get food-borne illnesses so bacteria really isn't something to be worried about. Dogs are constantly exposed to bacteria every day...they are low to the ground and put all kinds of stuff in their mouths. Bacteria is everywhere
