Aww, I love that song. My grandaddy used to sing it to me when I was little along with the second verse-
the other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
when I awoke dear
I was mistaken
so I hung my head and cried
then you sing the You are my Sunshine verse again.
I always sang it to my daughter but one night when she was around 3 or 4 she asked me to stop singing it because it made her sad. When I asked why she said it made her sad to think I was crying. Even if I left the second verse out it made her think of it so I had to stop singing it. She's such a sweetie pie.
