  Hemostats resemble long-nosed pliers. They have narrow serrated jaws with tapered, rounded tips. A ratchet mechanism between the handles holds the jaws locked in the closed position. Pushing the handles together and slightly apart releases them. 
That sounds like a great idea to use hemostats!
