Your best bet is to stick with boots. I had bought a set at petsmart for Tia and returned them because she wouldn't keep them on. Finally I bought a set of Muttluks. They come with a pamphlet with tips. Tia now loves going outside...the boots rarely come off and if they do it's because I didn't strap them on tight enough (and they do need to be tight!)
I highly recommend that brand.
