Thanks Villette, I went through this last December also, my yorki/shi mix died in my arms of Congestive Heart Failure, he was almost 11. Both the boys had been friends for so long, and it is strange not having them both here. For the first time in 16 years I am spending nights wondering what noises are. My husband works out of town sometimes and I felt so secure with Homer the chow mix as a watch dog.
Jack keeps me busy though, he is a handful, but so good, he is quite the watchdog himself but not very intimidating. I live in the country si will probably get another big dog, just for my peace of mind.
