I put Scrappy in his crate at night when he goes to sleep (anywhere between 9:30-11 depending on the length of his evening nap) and he stays in there and sleeps all night until I get up around 6am. He typically potties once in his little puppy pad in the corner of his crate at some point during the night. I've thought about cutting of his water around 8 or so - but for whatever reason that just feels mean to me.
The first night he whined a little in the middle of the night and I just didn't go in there - his crate is in the other room - and he hasn't tried that again since.

she whines, then if ignored she'll bark. She sleeps in her kennel (as my older yorkie sleeps in her kennel too), so no room for a pee pad in there. When she whines we take her out of her kennel and put her on the pee pad, she does her business, then we put her back in her kennel - same thing every two-three hours during the night.
